Therese Eccles Fleming

Therese “Terry” Fleming, née Eccles, died on December 6, 2020.

Terry was born in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada on February 8, 1931.

 

One of five children of Annie (Humphreys) and James Eccles, the family moved to Vancouver in 1943. Terry, along with her sisters Bernadette and Mary Lou, were members of the Jenny Lind Singers, and she won many awards throughout B.C. for her beautiful singing voice as a soloist.

 

In 1949, Terry attended Marylhurst University in Oregon before returning home to join the family profession of nursing. All four of the Eccles sisters were graduated from St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Vancouver, with Terry becoming a Registered Nurse in 1953.

 

Terry married Joseph Patrick Fleming, MD in 1955 and raised 8 kids. They lived Vancouver, Nottingham, England; Orlando, Florida; Montreal, Quebec and finally immigrated to Houston, Texas in 1977.

In addition to managing her husband’s medical practice, Terry was a gifted gardener, DIYer, crafter and genealogist. She loved to tell stories about the fun she had growing up with her sisters in Nelson and Vancouver.

 

Terry was predeceased by her parents, her brother James, her sister Elsie, her husband Joe, her sons James and Michael, and her granddaughter Victoria Luce.

 

She is survived by her children Siobhan Fleming, Frank Fleming, Madeline Gorff, Harold Fleming and Claire Leblanc, her sisters Bernadette Cubbage and Mary Lou Lauren, as well as 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

Terry was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas. In lieu of flowers or cards, she asked to be remembered in your prayers.
